Vision Statement:
The signatories to Treaty #6 of 1876 are the Cree, Dene, Nakoda, and Saulteaux Nations,who in allegiance, serve to protect, enforce and uphold the Treaty in its true spirit and intent, as told to us by our elders and sanctified by the sacred pipe. The eigthteen First Nations, in accord, will: act as a united political body, have a collective voice; will share relevant information on issue’s in common. We agree to political allegiance amongst our Nation’s in times when our Nationhood or the dignity and ways of our people are threatened, for as long as the sun shines, the rivers flow and the grass grows.
Original Mandate/Functions:
TREATY RESEARCH: -Determine status of Treaty Rights ADVOCACY:
Act as a collective voice on behalf of the Treaty #6 First Nations through the direction of the Chiefs Assist with the dissemination of information to Treaty Six membership and the general public Assert Treaty Rights through the direction of the Chiefs Assist with the protection of Treaty Rights through the direction of the Chiefs Monitor the infringement of Treaty Rights through the direction of the Chiefs Assist with lobbying initiatives upon request from First Nations
LIAISON:
POLICY DEVELOPMENT:
Assist with the development of policies regarding specific program areas (ie: Education, Social Development, Health, etc)
EDUCATION:
NB: THE CONFEDERACY WILL NOT ENCROACH ON TRIBAL COUNCIL’S POWERS
The Confederacy would act in an advisory capacity and act as a liaison between the First Nations and Tribal Councils First Nations/Tribal Councils shall continue to deliver and administer programs (The Confederacy will not infringe on this right) The Confederacy should prove to be a cost effective structure as it should minimize the among of resources necessary for each Tribal Council or First Nation to perform the same service.
FIRST NATIONS AND/OR TRIBAL COUNCILS WOULD CONTINUE TO DELIVER PROGRAMS IN THIS EXAMPLE OF A CENTRALIZED DELIVERY SYSTEM OF SERVICES. | |
